What Next?
It is with great joy that Pastor Victoria and I present you with this booklet! It’s been quite some time since the Lord moved in our hearts to put together a material like this for you. What He has very carefully mandated us to do is to “proclaim the Word of Liberty to Humanity.” On several occasions, the Holy Spirit has spoken to us on this regard.
We therefore believe that it is not enough to respond to an alter call (repentance) but that the New Believer or Converts must be adequately informed, equipped, and consecrated for the new life. Consequently, believers MUST know what has really happened to them at salvation. After all the Enthusiasm, emotions, excitement etc, what is next in the believers’ life? What must you do and where do you go from there?
For long time now, the “Church” seems to have produced more faith casualties than VICTORS. The reason is because of what I call “half truths” in presenting the gospel. You must know while you have come to Christ, what He represents in your life, etc. Half-truth will produce half-baked Christians. You must not be one of such.
If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, what are you waiting for? Don’t be left out. You can do that right where you are.
Go very quickly to the page that contains the prayer of salvation/ consecration and pray it. You may also want to call any serious child of God, or me, to lead you through the prayer. What ever you do, make sure to receive Jesus as your Lord and saviour. If you are already born again, congratulations and welcome to God’s Family on the earth. You must know these things.
Pastor Victor Phillips
NOW ... WHAT NEXT?
Now that you have come into God’s family, it is imperative that you understand what has really happened to you. You must now know your position in Christ Jesus. This includes the true meaning of salvation, deliverance, and your need for the baptism in the Holy Spirit, what God’s love is and fellowshipping other believers and the Holy Spirit.
In the Bible, God gives us the plan of how to be born again, which means to be saved. His plan is simple! You can be saved today. How?
Because of God’s deep love for you, he has already made all the necessary arrangements. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you can enjoy a personal relationship. Jesus made it possible to bridge the chasm, which separates us from God.
GOD LOVES YOU Through Jesus Christ
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
Man SEPARATED from God
Man is SINFUL and SEPARATED from God, so we cannot know Him personally or experience His love
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23 “The wages of sin is death” [spiritual separation from God].
Romans 8:6-8 “The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.”
A great gulf separates man from God. Man is continually trying to reach God and establish a personal relationship with Him through human efforts, such as living a good life, philosophy, or religion. But he inevitably fails.
“God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Although we cannot understand how, God said my sins and your sins were laid upon Jesus and He died in our place. He became our substitute. It is true. God cannot lie.
“God . . . commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17: 30). This repentance is a change of mind that agrees with God that one is a sinner, and also agrees with what Jesus did for us on the Cross.
Jesus Christ is God’s ONLY provision for man’s sin. Through him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love
Romans 5:8 “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 Corinthians 15:3-6 “Christ died for our sins... he was buried... he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures... he appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that he appeared to more than five hundred...”
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
God has bridged the gulf that separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.
Simply believe on Him as the One who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected. His resurrection powerfully assures that the believer can claim everlasting life when Jesus is received as Saviour.
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12).
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13). Whosoever includes you? Shall be saved means not maybe, nor can, but shall be saved.
But it is not enough just to know these truths...
We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour then we can know God personally and experience His love John 1:12 “As many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith. This does not depend on anything you have achieved, it is the free gift of God; and because it is not earned no one can boast about it.”
Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self in repentance
and trusting Christ Jesus to come into our lives to forgive us of ALL our sins and make us what He wants us to be. Just to agree intellectually or Philosophically that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience. We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of our will.
Jesus Christ is waiting for an invitation to come in to your life. In fact, he says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in” (Revelation 3: 20). Receive Him now. Pray the prayer on the last page.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity. He is fully God. He is eternal, omniscient, and omnipresent, has a will, and can speak. He is alive. He is a person. He is not particularly visible in the Bible because His ministry is to bear witness of Jesus.
Some might say that the Holy Spirit is nothing more than a force. This is false. If the Holy Spirit were merely a force, then He could not speak; He could not be grieved; and He would not have a will. The truth is that the Holy Spirit is a person the same as God the Father and God the Son.
Some Attributes of The Holy Spirit:
• Indwells believers - Rom. 8:9-14; Gal. 4:6
• Access to God - Eph. 2:18
• Anoints for Service - Luke 4:18
• Assures - Rom. 8:15-16; Gal. 4:6
• Inspires prayer - Eph. 6:18; Jude 20
• Empowers Believers - Luke 24:49
• Teaches - John 14:26 • Sanctifies - Rom. 15:16
• Molds Character - Gal. 5:22-23
THE MYSTERY OF SALVATION
Born-againism is completely a spiritual act. It has no bearing with our physical form or shape, at salvation and conversion. When we repent of our sins, confess and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and saviour, our sins are completely forgiven and washed away through faith, by the blood of Jesus Christ. Our spirit man is then simultaneously recreated and we are spiritually baptized into Christ Jesus. This is what happens.
God’s Word teaches that, “all old things have passed away and all things have become new ” 2 Corinthians 5:17. This is in regards to the sin nature and our new nature at salvation.
A person is triune, which is, spirit, soul and body. The spirit of a person was created by God, to have superintendence over the person’s life. Also, the spirit of a person is what was created in God’s image and after His likeness, since we all agree that God has no flesh, hence He is Spirit. So at salvation and conversion, it is this spiritually dead piece of the triune man that is recreated by God, and re-instated to it’s originally conceived and intended state, whereby this new spirit man is also re-energized to function.
But when a person embarks, and continues to live in sin, (the law of reflex will come into effect), his spirit man will be offended, grieved, and all together subdued by the power of sin, and that spirit loses spiritual strength and superintendence, and eventually dies, spiritual death. Consequently, this spirit is unable to function by controlling the soul and body. How ever at salvation and conversion, this spirit man is recreated in the image of God, that is, given a new life or revived, so such a person is spiritually, and simultaneously baptized into Christ Jesus.
Now the old state of the spirit-man and sins are passed away, that is, confessed sins are forgiven and forgotten by God. All things are now new, that is the spirit-man is recreated after God, given strength to live again, and to fulfill his God given responsibilities, and functions in the life of that person. Here we say, such a person is born-again, or recreated or regenerated or better still, a new creature.
WHICH IS BORN-AGAIN; THE SPIRIT, THE SOUL OR THE BODY?
The soul and body of a person never gets born-again. It is the spirit of a person that is born-again. Satan and his demons deal with people through the soulish realm. The soulish realm of a person contains, the mental faculties: intellect, mind, speech faculty, sinful desires and nature etc. Now consider this, if the soulish part of a person were to be born-again or recreated at the new birth, as “all old things have passed away, and all things have become new ”, each believer, would necessarily have to start their secular life afresh again.
What do I mean? Watch this, take the case of a medical doctor, who just got born-again, since old all things have passed away, and all things have become new, this new Christian convert, would have invariably lost his knowledge of medicine, and would need to be re-schooled. However, we know this is not usually the case, thank God.
The soul and body of a person is never born-again, (John 3:5-6) this is why you see some people still keep some of their habits, even after confessing Christ. Our spirit man is what God recreates. It is therefore the satanic deposits and traits that are dealt with by deliverance. You may now see while, certain people still exhibits sinful and demonic traits, oppressions, influences and possession or demonization after honouring an alter call.
When the spirit man of a person is alive, you say such is born-again, and even when such believer might mistakenly fall to sin or into sin, you would still notice the immediate desire for repentance, restitution and restoration of life to God. It is from such people you hears words like this, “I have sinned, but I want to repent that God might forgive me.” Whereas, from others, you may hears words like this, “ I didn’t sin, or you made me to sin, or I sinned, and so who cares?” These scenarios explain the contrasting lives of a new creature and the old nature.
CHRISTIAN MATURITY
There is no microwave or fast track Christian maturity. Growth comes from deep Christian spiritual experiences. You have to grow in grace and in the knowledge of God’s Word, which comes from a life of an inferential study and obedience to what is Biblically correct.
Genuine Christian growth will come through a very personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. This is has to be developed or cultivated. In our physical realm of life, no one becomes your friend without a relationship, communication, and association. In the same way, no viable relationship with the Holy Spirit could be attained without constant communication and association.
Spiritual growth is not based on the length of time we’ve been associating with the Lord, or being in a religious environment, but the fruit of our precious life of study, faith and obedience to God’s Word and powerful spiritual encounters with the Lord. In other words, the degree of our Christian spiritual experiences, determines the level of our growth. Without the Holy Spirit in the life of a Believer, there will not be a meaniful spiritual growth or maturity. Having a consistently continuous and living faith in God is a sign of spiritual growth/ maturity. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is the agent of Christian spiritual maturity.
GIVE NO PLACE TO THE DEVIL
One thing, which the Believer in Christ Jesus must know, and face sincerely, is the fact that, we have no friend in Satan. There is a hymn that says, “ What a friend we have in Jesus.” It is worthy to note that the hymn never says “what a friend we have in Satan.” I believe this hymn was written under the powerful inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
“Neither give place to the devil.” Ephesians 4:27
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
I believe what the bible is saying here, is that; the Devil has no place, except where we give him. Again, that the Devil is like a vagabond, he walks about seeking for those he can latch onto. Here, it is clear he has no place, but wants one. As he goes about and finds you with a peculiar habit or traits, that you won’t let go, he then puts his evil hands into it, and then, what started as casual becomes habitually sinful, and demonic.
Fear; the spirit of:
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
From the above passage, it is abundantly clear, that fear in any ramification has or is a spirit, and it is a bad spirit. It torments people and causes many other problems like procrastination, psychotic paranoid, and neurotics tendencies. These situations on their own are bad enough to destroy a very good relationship or the lives of people.
I call fear the policeman of the devil. Before Satan does any thing he tries to make the scene dreadful in other to be able to arrest people by the spirit of fear.
Fear is the direct opposite of faith; in fact fear is to the devil what faith is to God. The scripture declares that God has not given us the spirit of fear. Since God has not and will not give the spirit of fear, it sure means, it has come from the devil; and remember, no good gifts comes from Satan and his demons.
According to 11 Timothy 1:7, in place of the spirit of fear, God Himself has given us the Spirit of power, the Spirit love and the Spirit of a sound mind. So for every one evil spirit of fear, we have at the least four very positive and potent attributes “Spirits” in the Holy Spirit to counter and resist the devil of fear. The point is that, fear on it’s own can not do us any harm, except we respond to it, in panic and discouragement. Don’t fear, for you have no right to.
POINT OF VICTORY
Now that you are Born-again, as soon as that evil thought comes, you cast it out. Do not even consider it for a moment. Our victory lies in allowing thoughts of Jesus to occupy our hearts at all time. In this way the devil will not find any free soil on which to plant his evil seeds. If by any chance his evil seeds land on the soil occupied by the Word of God, which is the presence of Jesus in His fullest measure, they are quickly ejected.
RENEW YOUR MIND
That is why we must be transformed by the renewing of our mind, by allowing the Word of God to dwell richly in us. When Jesus was tempted by the devil after his forty-day fast, he resisted the devil simply by speaking the Word of God. The Word of God is our only weapon against the devil. We must be familiar with our weapon. Else we shall find ourselves at a disadvantage when the enemy attacks. We must be knowledgeable in using the Word of God. A soldier who has a gun but does not know how to operate it is useless in repelling an enemy’s aggression. In the same way, a Christian who does not know how to apply the Word of God to his circumstances will always find himself losing precious ground to the forces of darkness. Make a quality commitment today to feed yourself on a daily diet of the Word of God. Spend quality time everyday studying the Bible and praying. You will be surprised how much it will speak to your circumstance.
PRINCIPLE OF DIVINE DOMINION
Let us picture a very strong man, very powerful. Suppose this man, decides to terrorize his neighbourhood. He stands astride a footpath and refuses everyone passage. He is so powerful that no one is able to force him out of the footpath. Eventually, someone decides to call in the police. Presently a police car pulls up and a very skinny lowest ranking police officer confronts the strong man. The officer commands him to get off the road. He handcuffs the strong man, and packing him into the car, drives off. The policeman was able to arrest the strong man because he was acting on the authority of the government. Authority is superior to power or strength.
We may not be powerful enough to confront the devil on our own but because we are chosen to operate the authority and dominion of our Lord, he has to obey our commands.
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ”.
1 John.4: 4; 1 Corinthians 3: 16; Galatians 3:27
Yes, as many of us as have been baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit have put on the authority of Christ. It is the Holy Spirit that baptizes us into the Body of Christ as it written, “no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Spirit of God.” As soon as you surrender your heart to Jesus Christ, his authority comes upon you. It does not depend on how long you have been in the Lord.
It is immediate, although the devil will try to deceive you out of exercising it. According to the Principle of Divine Dominion, the authority you submit yourself to, will come upon you. It takes a right relationship with Jesus to operate his victory
FAITH AND PRAYERS
Therefore, much as God’s dealing with us is on faith, we must also walk by faith in the Lord and His Word. Romans 1:17 declare, “ …The just shall live by faith.” This does not sound as a suggestive or conditional statement, it is a standard. We either live by faith or not.
As we grow, we would soon discover that, faith is progressively understanding God’s Word and exercising them on our situation and circumstances
Faith comes by hearing and hearing God’s Word. (Romans 10: 17). Faith is the spiritual substance that connects the natural and supernatural together.
God answers prayer made by faith in the name of the Son of God, Jesus Christ (John14:13).
Again, our faith must be attached to the prayers we make in the name of Jesus, because only in this way shall we expect to receive from the Lord. When our prayers and faith are based on God’s Word and Jesus Christ, it is like planting seeds on good ground that will produce good fruits.
But this I say, He, which soweth (prayeth) sparingly shall reap also sparingly (no answers); and he, which soweth bountifully (prayeth effectually) shall reap also bountifully (good and tangible results to prayers).
2 Corinthians 9:6, Emphasis mine.
PRAYER FOR CONSECRATION AND SALVATION
CHRISTIAN BELIEVER:
Perhaps you are born-again and after reading, you have discovered that the devil has been deceiving and cheating you into bondage. I have very good news for you; Christ Jesus hath the power and the power of God he wills. Halleluiah! You can be free now. Just humble yourself and submit for a deliverance ministration. If you can’t do it yourself because, you don’t have enough faith for that, simply ask an anointed Christian believer of the full gospel of Jesus Christ to help you.
The reason I say this is that, there are different degrees of anointing in the life of believers. Had you such degree of anointing, you would never have been in such a situation spiritually. No shame or pride about it, just submit and then begin to live in abundance, freedom, and power. Be forceful and determined about your life; enforce the victory of Christ Jesus in your life. God’s Word declares;
And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven (God) (Christian believers) suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. Matthew 11:12
But upon mount Zion (church; Body of believers in Christ Jesus) shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob (believers in Christ Jesus) shall posses their possession.
Obaiah 1:17. Emphasis mine.
OTHERS
If you want to surrender your heart to Jesus and be baptized into His victory over the devil and his demons. I can assure you that Jesus is waiting to receive you and to transform your life. You can invite Jesus into your life even now, in the privacy of your home or wherever you are, there is no hindrance in this prayer.
The Scripture says,
“That if thou shaft confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
In Luke 18:13, the sinner prayed: “God be merciful to me a sinner.” Just pray: “Oh God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus was my replacement when He died on the Calvary’s Cross. I believe His shed blood; death, burial, and resurrection were for me. I repent of all my sins, I ask you to forgive all my sins in Jesus Name. I now receive Jesus Christ into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I thank You for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift of salvation and everlasting life, because of Your shed blood for me. In Jesus name Amen.”
Frankly, that is all it takes. Get on your knees, repent of your sins and confess them to him. Then invite Jesus Christ, into your life to be your Lord and personal Saviour.
Look out for a good Bible believing church where you can get nourished in the Word of God and continue to fellowship there, and get filled with the Holy Spirit of power.
LIVE FOR HIM
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
I strongly believe that the above statement should be true to all Christian believers in a very practicable way. We must arrive at a point in our Christian walk with God where we can say, “ it is no longer I that lives but Christ Jesus that lives in me and the life I live now, I live by the faith of the Son of God”. Jesus is alive in me. Remember Jesus is not just alive, but alive in us.
Praying that this should be true of you.
God bless you.
GETTING TO KNOW VICTOR & VICTORIA PHILLIPS
Victor & Victoria Phillips received the divine call of the Lord Jesus Christ into full time ministry several years ago. At this time, Victor was employed at the office of the President of Nigeria. After his Bible/pastoral education and ordination, he has continued serving the Lord. The Lord Jesus said to him during one of several very powerful encounters, after taking him to the gates of Heaven and hell; “I am giving you a new ministry, go, preach the Word of salvation, deliverance, healing, and prosperity and prepare My people for Heaven”. Since then, they minister with love, passion, and the miraculous power of God.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is always present during their meetings. Many call them the Apostles of prayers because of the divine revelations, and gifts for Spiritual warfare prayers and intercession given them by the Holy Spirit.
